Oil on Board
24" x 36"
c. 1983/84

This painting was created in 1983 or 1984 and was entered into an art competition for the 1984 Summer Olympics that were held in Los Angeles. It depicted a graphic version of the famous track and field star Jesse Owens who had passed away a few years before in 1980. He had won four gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics and was considered one of the greatest American athletes. The artist had a lot of respect for him as both an athlete and a human being and this painting was his way to honor him. Of course, it was not the winning graphic so the painting hangs in a bar in the artist's home.
