The Faces

Includes Cirque Series (aka The Harlequins) and Portraits

Leonard has always been intrigued by faces and often explores creating portraits, whether they be real or imaginary.

Some of these images are a part of a series of paintings by Leonard Filgate depicting circus/cabaret themed images and harlequins. It has been inspired by the color, costumes, theatrics, and moods created by such wonders as Cirque du SoleilTeatro ZinZanni, Beach Blanket Babylon, and other cabaret-style, circus-inspired theater. Long fascinated by the imagery of the rather flamboyant, sometimes zany, sometimes contemplative characters created in all these venues, he has focused mainly on creating larger-than-life imagery, although you will find a few that are more illustrative and child-like.

Also included here are few commissioned portraits, imagined faces, and a reproduction of a 17th Century Dutch portrait which you can see on this page.
