The Windmill
Acrylic on Canvas
36" x 24"
c. 2012
This 75-foot tall structure which towers over Queens Wilhelmina Tulip Gardens where Golden Gate Park meets the mighty Pacific Ocean is known as the Dutch Windmill. This image was created from studies made by the artist soon after the exterior restoration was completed in the early 1980s. The original use of this windmill was to pump water that helped to turn this bit of land from a sandy wasteland into a lush and beautiful urban park.
The original is sold and in a private collection. This image is available as an open edition print on FineArtAmerica.com, with a number of other San Francisco images by Leonard.
